A female-like breast in men can occur due to accumulation of fat or enlarged glandular tissue. This occurs in approximately 50% of all men, in some more obvious than others.
Should the cause of the enlarged breast be due to fat deposits, liposuction is performed. (See Liposuction.) Should the enlargement be due to glandular tissue, this tissue can be removed. An incision is made outside of the nipple through which the tissue is removed. After the removal of the tissue, the incision is sutured.
Should the gynecomastia occur in an extreme form or there is excess skin due to extreme weight loss, this skin can be removed as well. In many ways the procedure is similar to a breast lift. (See Breast Lift.)
