Liposuction is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures. The following methods can theoretically be performed on any part of the body, such as neck, upper arms, breast, tummy, hips, bottom, thighs, knees, calves, ankles or face. The patient has to be aware that liposuction is not an alternative to loosing weight. It is merely for the so-called problem areas.
We can offer two methods for liposuction: the Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) and the newest method, called the SmartLipo.
Power Assisted Liposuction: It is performed under general anaesthetic and requires an overnight stay in hospital. This is the traditional method for liposuction which involves a small incision (5 mm) in which the suction tube is placed and the fat is removed. Scars are hardly visible. The patient needs to wear an elastic garment for 4-6 weeks after surgery to aid healing and to ensure proper results. Stitches are removed 5-7 days after surgery and most patients arrange this with their GP at home. The minimum stay in Budapest is 3 days after surgery.
SmartLipo: Depending on the area(s) it is performed either under local or general anaesthetic (in this case an overnight stay at the hospital is required). SmartLipo is much less invasive than traditional liposuction. A thin rod-like device with a laser on the top of it is inserted through the skin in the area to be treated and the heat from the laser melts the fat tissue which later absorbs. The laser also stimulates the production of collagen which tightens the skin. The elastic garment only needs to be worn for a few days after surgery and the patient can leave Budapest 3 days after surgery.

Facts and Questions - Liposuction
Q: What are the risks associated with Liposuction surgery?
As with all surgical interventions, there are side-effects and risks associated with liposuction surgery. With technology becoming more and more advanced the risk are becoming less each year, however, the following can occur: bleeding, swelling, mild oedema. To avoid/reduce swelling, it is recommended that ice or cold packs be applied for the first few days after surgery. All of the above side effects can be easily treated.
Please note that liposuction is not a means to weight loss and not for the overweight. It should be used to define body areas and address "problem"areas.
Q: Is there anything I need to do before the surgery?
Clients must fill in the online medical questionnaire and fully state what medication they are currently taking. The surgeon will then be able to advise if some of your medications need to be stopped before the surgery takes place.
Think about your diet – following a low fat healthy diet can only help you make a faster recovery. Avoiding alcohol for 14 days prior to surgery should be considered.
Think about whether you will need somebody to accompany you on your trip. We are here to take you to the clinic and back to your hotel after the surgery and also for your post-check ups and airport transfer. However, would you feel more comfortable with somebody staying with you during your stay? Please note that all Perfect Contour patients will be given a client phone during their stay in Budapest so that a member of the Perfect Contour team will always be available should the need arise.
Q: Should I inform the surgeons of any pre-existing conditions and/or medications?
Yes, this is very important. The surgeon should be informed of any medication, presciption or non-prescription, vitamins, or food supplements you are taking. You also need to inform us of any pre-existing conditions and medical history, no matter how trivial or irrelevant you might find them.
Q: Should I stop taking my medication before the surgery?
Once you have completed the online medical questionnaire form, the surgeon will be able to tell you if you need to adjust any medication you are currently taking.
Q: How long will the surgery last for?
Although every surgery is different and depending on the extent of the liposuction, the operation should take between 1 to 2 hours.
Q: How long do I need to stay in hospital for after the surgery?
Barring any complications, if surgery was performed under general anaesthetic, patients are required to stay overnight at the clinic.
Q: How long do I need to stay in Budapest for after the surgery?
It is recommended that patients stay for a minimum 3 days after surgery, taking into account no complications arising from the surgery.
Q: What kind of medication will I be given after the surgery?
Patients will be given painkillers to deal with any discomfort they might feel following the surgery.
Q: Will I need to wear a special compression garment after the surgery? If so for how long?
Yes, it is essential that patients wear their compression garments after the surgery for a minimum of 4-6 weeks after the PAL liposuction, and for a shorter period after the SmartLipo. It is of the outmost importance that the patient wears the elastic garment for the given period after surgery. Not wearing the garment for the appropriate length of time will compromise the result of the surgery.
Q: When will I be able to shower after the surgery?
It is only recommended that patients wait for the stitches to be removed before having a shower.
Q: Do I need to be accompanied by somebody to Budapest?
All clients will be met at the airport and taken to their hotel. A Perfect Contours representative will take the client for their consultation and to the clinic on the day of the surgery. The client will also be taken back to their hotel after being discharged. However, some people prefer to have a friend or relative accompany them during their trip to keep them company.
Q: When will the stitches are removed after surgery?
Stitches are normally removed 7 days after surgery. This can be done at home with your local GP or nurse. Alternatively, some patients chose to stay in Budapest for the full 7 days after surgery and have the stitches removed by the surgeon.
Q: Will there be any visible scarring after the surgery?
The scarring from the liposuction surgery is hardly visible and fade with time. The incisions are only 5mm long in case of the PAL liposuction, and there are practically no incisions in case of the SmartLipo.
Q: When will I be able to return to work after the surgery?
Patients can expect to return to work approximately 10 days after surgery (once the stitches have been removed).
Q: When will I be able to exercise /lift heavy objects after the surgery?
Lifting of heavy objects is not recommended for 3 weeks after surgery, although light exercise or even massage is recommended.

Patient Itinerary
Arrival - Budapest has only one airpot called 'Ferihegy airport' and patients arrive either at Terminal 1 or 2. A hostess will wait for you at the arrivals area with your name on a board and take you to your taxi. The driver will know your destination and takes you to your accommodation. Most patients arrive in Budapest the evening before surgery and spend the first night in their hotel or apartment. You can have a late dinner but you should not eat or drink anything after midnight.
Surgery day - A driver will pick you up early morning and take you to the clinic where you will be met by a Perfect Contours representative. Please remember to bring your passport for administrative purposes. You will be settled into your room and meet your surgeon for your consultation. The surgeon will take you through the procedure, your expectations and answer and queries or questions you may have. The anesthetist will also visit you and discuss your medical questionnaire with you. He willa sk you about previous surgeries, medication you may take and medical conditions. You will receive various paperwork that needs to be signed by you:

After your consultation but before surgery you will be asked to pay for the surgery in full, either by cash or credit card. You will then have your pre-op tests. Once the test results have come through you will be taken to surgery.
Depending upon the surgery, you could spend up to three nights at the clinic. You will be checked regularly by nurses throughout the day and night and your surgeon will check on you daily. Before you are discharged the surgeon will give you a thorough check-up and after you are discharged you will be picked up and taken back to your accommodation. The clinic will provide you with adequate medication (pain relief, antibiotics if necessary and in some cases anti thrombosis medication). You will be taken for several check-ups with your surgeon before you fly back home. For most surgeries absorbable stitches are used and there is no need for stitch removal. For surgeries where non-absorbable stitches are used you will be advised when to visit your GP for stitch removal. A Perfect Contours representative will be on hand throughout your stay in Budapest. During your final check-up the surgeon will give you your discharge papers in English. Depending on the type of surgery you had you might be required to wear compression garments for 4-6 weeks afterr surgery. It is very important you follow the surgeon's instructions on aftercare once you return home.
On the day of your departure you will be taken to the airport (you should allow a minimum of 2 hours at the airport for check-in, security, etc.)
