Laser Eye Surgery

Almost half of the population in Europe uses optical aids to improve their eye sight. As we all know these aids can only offer temporary solutions but nothing permanent. Laser treatment has been specifically developed for people who wear glasses or contact lenses who wish to permanently rectify this. The treatment is highly developed and successful.

The simple and painless treatment does not last more than 3 to 5 minutes and in return offers you the freedom of contact lenses and glasses to pursue the modern lifestyle of today.

In 2001 523.000 successful laser eye surgeries were performed in Europe and approximately 2 million worldwide.

LASIK

LASIK is the type of laser eye surgery chosen by most patients worldwide.

During this procedure a thin flap is created in the surface layer of the cornea and by lifting the flap the necessary amount of tissue is evaporated from the revealed corneal bed.

The advantage of having LASIK rather than PRK or LASEK is the fact that the flap reattaches within a few hours, there is no post operative pain whatsoever. The visual recovery is immediate, it just might take a few hours for the eyes to adjust. The patient can return to work after a few days. LASIK requires no post operative treatment and the result lasts a lifetime.

The price for LASIK surgery is EUR 690/one eye EUR 1,380/both eyes

ZYOPTIX

This is a personalised vision correction plan. Before the surgery the special diagnostic equipment reveals the higher refractional errors of the eye. Based on the mapping of the individual refractional error, the shape of the cornea is refashioned according to a completely personal treatment scheme.

ZYOPTIX corrects not only the lower order of aberration but the higher order of aberration.

The price for ZYOPTIX customised ablation with wavefront analysis is EUR 910/one eye, EUR 1,820/both eyes

Am I suitable for laser eye surgery?

You are suitable for surgery if qualify with any of the following:

What to expect during the surgery

  • The operation will take place in an air-conditioned, sterile operating room. You will be dressed in a gown, cap and special coverings for your shoes.
  • You will be required to lie down for the operation and local anaesthetic eye drops will be administered. The eye and surrounding area will be covered with a protective film during the surgery which will take no more than 3 to 5 minutes.
  • The laser treatment is not painful, you will only feel slight pressure when the flap is created.

What to expect after the surgery

It is quite possible to feel a slight discomfort after the surgery. However, this can easily be reduced by wearing ultra-violet sunglasses. The clinic is happy to provide sunglasses free of charge which we recommend our patients wear for 2 weeks after surgery. You will be provided with safety goggles which must be worn for the first night after surgery. There may be slight redness in the eyes, this will disappear within a week.

You will be asked to come back to the clinic the following day for a check-up after which you are free to fly home. Please bear in mind that although you will notice an immediate improvement in your sight after surgery, your vision will take a few weeks to become fully clear.

Important Information on how to protect your eyes after surgery

  • Do not use make-up for 1 week
  • Do not lift any heavy objects or run for 3 days
  • Do not go swimming, use a sauna or steam room for 4 weeks

  • PLEASE DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES FOR AT LEAST 3 WEEKS.

Order of Events
  • After an initial telephone or email enquiry in which we would ask you to provide your dioptres and general state of health, we would arrange an appointment for you with the clinic. We help you with arranging accommodation and provide airport pick-up. We take you to the clinic and assist you throughout your stay in Budapest.

Note: It is important that you do not wear your soft contact lenses at least 7 days before the examination and your hard contact lenses at least 3 weeks before the examination.

  • You will have a full examination with the clinic which takes approximately 2 hours. During this time our consultants will identify your sight problems with the diagnostic equipment. Our highly latest and highly sophisticated equipment is able to show precise pictures of even the smallest abnormalities of the eye. Using all of this data, the consultant will be able to formulate a personalised treatment plan specific to your needs.

  • Please remember to bring your glasses or contact lenses to the examination and no make-up should be worn before the examination.

  • We will take back to your hotel after the examination as your pupils will have been dilated during this procedure with special eye drops.

  • On the day of the surgery please remember not to wear any make-up and to come in comfortable clothes. We will take you to your surgery and take you back to your hotel. The visit to the clinic should last approximately 2 to 4 hours. Before surgery you will be given a sedative (usually XANAX tablet) together with the local anaesthetic eye drops. The surgery itself lasts no more than 3 to 5 minutes (see Procedure).
