The blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is performed under local anaesthetic. Excess skin on the upper lid (sometimes together with fat and muscle tissue) is removed and the incision is sutured with very thin surgical thread. The incision is in the natural crease of the eyelid, and is therefore hardly visible. In case of the lower lids, surgery is performed from the inside.
After the operation the eyes are more open and larger giving the face a more youthful and fresher appearance.
The upper and lower eyelid plasty can be performed together with a facelift.
Each surgery carries its own type of risk and for further detailed information please contact us.
Facts and Questions - Upper and Lower Eyelid Plasty
Q: What are the risks associated with Upper and Lower Eyelid Plasty surgery?
As with all surgical interventions, there are side-effects and risks associated with eyelid plasty surgery. Although rare the following complications may occur.
Bleeding towards the eyes is rare but can be serious. Bleeding can cause reddish eyes, however, this is usually absorbed within a few weeks. Oedema around the eyes and keloid wounds are also rare but can happen. A possible side-effect with the lower eyelid plasty is that the shrinking wound turns the eyelid out causing irritation and dry eyes. As the wound heals and softens, this disappears, however, corrective surgery is sometimes required.
Q: Is there anything I need to do before the surgery?
Clients must fill in the online medical questionnaire and fully state what medication they are currently taking. The surgeon will then be able to advise if some of your medications need to be stopped before the surgery takes place.
Think about your diet – following a low fat healthy diet can only help you make a faster recovery. Avoiding alcohol for 14 days prior to surgery should be considered.
Think about whether you will need somebody to accompany you on your trip. We are here to take you to the clinic and back to your hotel after the surgery and also for your post-check ups and airport transfer. However, would you feel more comfortable with somebody staying with you during your stay? Please note that all Perfect Contour patients will be given a client phone during their stay in Budapest so that a member of the Perfect Contour team will always be available should the need arise.
